What the Apollo does differently, to get real-time FX processing, is the Apollo has Digital Signal Processing computer chips within itself. They also can be added later to an already recorded signal in your DAW. ![]() ![]() Various FX processors (plug-ins) like Autotune, are usually run in the computer as the signal is being recorded. What you have recorded then gets played back as a digital format into the interface which then converts the signal back into an analog signal for you to listen to. The interface then converts that signal into a digital format the computer can use. That is what the preamplifiers in an interface do. ![]() Here is an article from Sound on Sound Magazine that will shed some light on the matter.Įven the interface (external sound card like Focusrite or Aopllo) and any software you will use can add more latency, and monitoring in your DAW will increase the latency.Ī microphone puts out a weak signal which must be raised in strength by a preamplifier before it is strong enough to be of use. Latency is created mostly by the computer, because there is much going on, and the compute can only process a finite amount of data at any given moment.
